IMPLEMENTATION OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT REFORM (LGR)

NEW LEGISLATION ENACTED TO SUPPORT LGR ACROSS THE BASES FROM 01 JULY 2024

 

The Sovereign Base Areas Administration (SBAA) wishes to inform the public that as of the 01 July 2024, new legislation has come into force that supports the Republic of Cyprus initiative of LGR. These changes reduce the number of municipalities and communities with the aim to enhance the financial and administrative autonomy of local authorities. New District Local Government Organisations have been established, which will now become the local authorities for numerous public-facing duties, including most Non-Military Development applications.
